Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about his side’s game against Tottenham over the weekend.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed the ideal situation would have been to replay their game against Tottenham but conceded that was unlikely because it’s not happened before.

The German manager said: “I think the only outcome for the Tottenham-Liverpool game should be a replay.” Liverpool lost their first game of the season and very first time at the Tottenham Stadium after two Reds players were sent off and Luis Díaz had a goal wrongly ruled out.

The Reds boss hinted it was crucial but confirmed it was incredibly unlikely for them to get a replay for that. He added: “It probably won’t happen. I think it is so unprecedented; it didn’t happen before.”

On Tuesday Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL) released the audio of the incident but Klopp said that should not be the end of the matter.

He added: “It is an obvious mistake. I think there should be solutions for that. I think the outcome should be a replay. The argument against that would be it opens the gates … I’m used to wrong and difficult decisions but something like this never happened and so that is why I think a replay is the right thing to do.”

Liverpool look to have recovered from their disappointing campiagn last season, putting a chain of victories together and were Europe’s best team without a defeat before the controversial loss in north London.

Klopp’s side flexed their title challenge credential when they beat Newcastle away from home with 10-men and where seconds away from holding Tottenham to a draw despite playing for large parts of the second half with 9-men.
