Harry Kane breaks silence as Tottenham end trophy drought with Europa League title
Harry Kane has spoken after Tottenham’s Europa League title success on Wednesday night.
Tottenham legend Harry Kane has already congratulated his old club after watching them win the UEFA Europa League from his new home in Germany. Spurs ended a 17-year trophy drought on Wednesday night by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

Brennan Johnson stabbed home a scrappy first-half goal, allowing Tottenham to defend a lead in the second half, a lead they defended admirably, with Ange Postecoglou’s men putting on a defensive clinic in the Basque Country.
The win could save Postecoglou’s job, but perhaps more importantly for Tottenham fans, the club has now secured qualification for next season’s Champions League. That’s a huge boost for the club financially and otherwise, and it means Spurs fans can all-but forget about what has been a record-settingly bad season in the Premier League.
It’s an interesting twist of irony for Tottenham to finally win a trophy the season after Kane finally called it a day with his beloved club, leaving for Bayern Munich last summer. Though, Kane won’t have any true regrets, going on to win the Bundesliga trophy with Bayern, while he will also win the league’s golden boot.
But Kane left Tottenham to win trophies, and it provides a very interesting story line that the North London club won a major trophy this season, ending an almost two-decade-long wait for silverware.
Kane will be delighted for his own club, though, and he was clearly watching from Germany, quickly posting a message on X after Tottenham defeated United in the final on Wednesday night. Quoting the Tottenham page posting a celebratory tweet, the striker wrote: “congratulations @SpursOfficial.“
What Kane said when he left Tottenham
When leaving Tottenham last summer, Kane said in a statement: “I wanted to be the first to tell you Tottenham fans that I will be leaving the club today. Obviously a lot of emotions going through me now. Sad to be leaving the club I have spent nearly 20 years of my life at from an 11-year-old boy to a 30-year-old man, there have been so many great moments and special memories, memories that I will cherish forever.
“This is thank you to all to all my team-mates over the years, all my coaches, all the managers, every single staff member to do with the club, from the kit men to the chefs, everyone involved. Obviously I built special relationships with a lot of people. And most importantly a thank you to you the Tottenham fans. From the moment I’ve been playing I’ve been one of your own and I’ve given everything that I possibly could to make you proud and give you as many special moments and memories to hopefully last forever.”
