Tottenham Hotspur are in the process of revitalisation under Italian manager Antonio Conte with Harry Kane bouncing back from a momentary slump.

Kane missed out on the scoring action in Spurs’ latest triumph as they thumped Newcastle 5-1, with goals coming from Ben Davies, Matt Doherty, Son Heung-min, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn but did score during his side’s 2-0 win over Brighton two weeks ago.

The north London club are currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League, clinging to a Champions League spot as best they can although they will continue to receive threats from their city rivals, Arsenal, as the season comes to a close.

Not only will Spurs be hoping to keep a hold of their fourth place positioning, but they may also hope to keep a hold of their star forward, Kane.

It had been widely reported that the 28-year-old captain of England was keen to leave his club last summer for Manchester City but a deal could not be agreed.

Latest reports are now suggesting that Kane is ‘curious’ to listen to any deals or offers Manchester United may give before he decides on his next step.

It has been reported by The Athletic that England’s second all-time leading goalscorer is currently ‘curious to hear’ what news United may offer him before he decides on where he will play next season.

Kane currently has two years left on his contract at Spurs but if the sale of the academy graduate is granted by Daniel Levy, it may also spark a state of unhappiness for Antonio Conte.

It is thought that if Kane were to be sold, a message would go out that Spurs are not interested in competing within the top four next season, a message with which the Italian would not be happy.

What has Conte said about Harry Kane?

Speaking after Spurs’ phenomenal triumph over Newcastle on Sunday 3 April 2022, Conte said of Kane: “He was a big example for his team-mates.

“When you see him work this way, for sure you have to show the desire to continue to work very hard. For this reason I want to tell him thanks because he’s a big example for everything.

“And I hope to give him satisfaction. Now he is enjoying playing this type of football and we have to try to continue together because I’m seeing many players with great improvement.”

He then continued by saying: “His performance was amazing. I said to him it was a shame he didn’t score but he played in a fantastic way. To have a player like him in your team makes you strong. To know we have him in our side is very important because he can score and create chances.”

What would happen to Antonio Conte?

If Conte’s main man was sold, the report from The Athletic has also suggested that Paris Saint-Germain may come calling.

Man Utd are on the hunt for a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who left the Red Devils back in November.

Ralf Rangnick has currently been leading the side but will become part of the coaching staff after the end of the 2021/22 season.

United have made no secret of who they are interested in hiring: Ajax’s manager, Erik ten Hag and PSG’s manager (former Spurs boss) Mauricio Pochettino.

If Pochettino were to take up the offer from the Red Devils, The Athletic believes PSG would make enquiries as to Conte’s interest in joining the Parisian team.

PSG would be able to offer Champions League football as a fact rather than blind hope and Conte would also be in charge of a side filled with many more of the world’s elite players.
