'Good chance' - Thomas Frank confirms Tottenham injury boost ahead of Wolves

Thomas Frank has eased concerns after Tottenham’s win over Doncaster Rovers.

Thomas Frank has provided an injury update on one of the players who missed out on Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers. Spurs progressed to the fourth round thanks to a 3-0 away win that saw Joao Palhinha and Brennan Johnson get on the scoresheet, with Donny also scoring an own goal.

It was a night of positives for Frank and Spurs, who now know they will face cup holders Newcastle United in the next round.

Before then comes a Premier League clash with Wolves at home this weekend, with the West Midlands side having had a torrid start to the season aside from their Carabao Cup win over Everton. Wolves are yet to win a Premier League game, losing all five and quickly sinking to the bottom of the table.

That could make them dangerous, though, and Frank will be well aware of that factor as he prepares his men for Saturday. Spurs are carrying some injuries going into the clash, though, with the likes of Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani having been deal with issues of late.

Another concern involves Pape Matar Sarr, who missed the Doncaster clash with what is being described as a ‘minor’ issue. Frank says the midfielder could return against Wolves this weekend, though, easing any concern from fans.

Frank said: "It was a minor precaution. A minor, how can you say... a little stretch to the thigh, so we didn’t want to take any risks today. There is a good chance that he could be ready for Saturday."

Frank has made it clear he will rely heavily on Sarr this season, saying back in August: “Pape Matar Sarr is the standout in terms of, I don’t want to say expectations, but he has impressed me. He has done very well. He had a very good season two years ago and then he had a not as good (season) last year. His ability with the ball, his running power is really good.”

Sarr has formed a key part of an improved Spurs midfield along with Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha as the main options. Archie Gray will provide cover, and he staked his claim on Wednesday night in the cup, while Yves Bissouma could also play a role when he returns from injury in a few weeks’ time.

Asked about Gray’s performance against Doncaster, Frank said: "I think we saw his running power, very willing to run in behind, very good when he has that drive with the ball and he can get up the pitch. I think it was a fine performance."

On Palhinha, who actually played at centre-back on Wednesday night, he added: "Very happy. He has been very good for us since he joined. Again, just stepping into that centre-back role and played very well and scored a very good goal. So, yeah, pleased." Frank will be hoping to have his usual midfield in place, including Sarr, this weekend.
