Former Tottenham man Pascal Chimbonda has landed a job as the coach of Skelmersdale United in the ninth tier of English football.

The 44-year-old revealed he's been inspired by both Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola after succeeding Matt Potter at the North West Counties League Premier Division side.

He told the club and reporters over the weekend: "This is a very proud day for me.

"It is a great honour to become manager of a club with a history as rich as that of Skelmersdale United Football Club.

"I've been inspired by Guardiola, Mourinho, Simeone and Zidane, and as such just like those great managers, my philosophy will be to play attractive football."

Chimbonda will take charge of his first game on Wednesday when Skelmersdale United take on Kendal Town in the Macron Cup.

He will be delighted with the progress his former club has made in the league with the Lilywhites jumping to the summit of the Premier League and unbeaten since the start of the season.

The brand of football being encouraged is also breathtaking having seen a total transformation from when they did under former manager Antonio Conte.

The mood has been completely transformed from the one that saw fans leave early before 90 minutes of games last season.
