Chelsea manager Graham Potter finally enjoyed a brilliant win at Stamford Bridge after a fascinating 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund that ensured progression to the quarter final stage of the Champions League.

The win over Leeds United in the league over the weekend was morale-boosting and set the platform for Chelsea’s finest display under Potter since he took over the team last September.

For someone who had taken a lot of stick for the recent result, Potter remained calm and dignified even if his assistants dropped their faces and joined the fans in their delight.

This was the night that the Graham Potter Chelsea reign finally took off and the former Brighton and Hove Albion boss will hope that they cash in on the momentum when they face Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend.

Asked if club owner Todd Boehly, who has stood by him even when it seemed the clouds were gathering has had a word with him after the win, Potter admitted they had a chat and that his boss was still in the dressing room.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter told reporters: “Yeah I have. He’s still here. My job is to help the team, help the players, prepare the team as well as we could and to support them.

“They’ve been suffering as well. Nobody has enjoyed the run we’ve had. That’s why today was important for us. We wanted to progress, and we have, so we’re happy.”

When Potter decided to exchange the comfort of Brighton for Stamford Bridge, these were the kind of nights he envisaged and now that he’s been able to buy himself some time with a win like this, he’ll hope to use this moment as the platform to build his legacy.
