Latest Tottenham Hotspur transfer news emerges as they prepare for the new Premier League season

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is reportedly closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The Spaniard may well become Ange Postecoglou’s first signing since leaving Celtic to take over the London club.

According to reporter Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the player has ‘agreed’ personal terms over a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer. Conversations over the price tag involved are said to be ‘ongoing’.

Romano has also added that Chelsea ‘didn’t’ meet with Raya’s agent despite speculation earlier this month. Brentford have already brought in Mark Flekken from SC Freiburg as his replacement at the Gtech Community Stadium and will now hope to get the best deal possible.

Spurs could see the 27-year-old as an ideal long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, who is facing an uncertain future at the club at the moment. Postecoglou will be eager to put his own stamp on his newly-inherited squad over the next couple of months and has the chance to bring in reinforcements now following the opening of the new transfer window.

Raya, who is from Barcelona, moved to England in 2012 and signed for Blackburn Rovers. He had a loan spell in non-league at Southport as a youngster to get some experience under his belt and later went on to make 108 first-team appearances during his time at Ewood Park before Brentford swooped in.

He has been the Bees’ number one over the past four years and has played 161 games between the sticks. He played a key role behind Thomas Frank’s side’s promotion from the Championship back in 2020 and has adapted to the step up to life in the top flight with ease.

A whole host of clubs have been linked with Raya over recent times with his contract up next summer. However, Spurs look to be in the driving seat now.
