Aston Villa vs Tottenham final injury update as 16 players ruled out
All the injury news surrounding Tottenham’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Aston Villa.
Tottenham are back in action on Sunday when they turn their attention to the FA Cup, taking on Aston Villa in the fourth round. Spurs have had a tough week, suffering defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.
Ange Postecoglou is now under real pressure, and he can’t afford to lose another avenue to silverware in this FA Cup game. Here we round up all the final injury news ahead of the Villa Park clash.
Axel Disasi - Out (Ineligible)
Loan signing Disasi is cup-tied having represented Chelsea in the FA Cup already. Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio are available.
Pau Torres - Out
Emery has said: “We are going to work tomorrow, but at the beginning, we have out, not available for Sunday, Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres, Cash, Ross Barkley and Watkins.”
Matty Cash - Out
Emery said of Cash last week: “We will train this afternoon, but Matty is not available. He's going to be, more or less, three to four weeks out.”
Ollie Watkins - Out
Emery has said this week: “Each day is important, how he is feeling, but for Sunday, I think he is not going to be available. Tomorrow, I think he is not going to train as well, because he will need more days to recover. Hopefully, for next week, he will be available.”
Ross Barkley - Out
Emery has said: “Ross still has work to do individually before he can join us. For the next days or maybe a week, and to be ready to play, but not yet.” That update was at the end of January, and it’s likely Barkley will remain out here.
Richarlison - Out
Richarlison is a fresh blow, with Postecoglou saying: “It’s disappointing for him. He was emotional last night because he’d worked really hard to get himself back, but again, it’s another setback that he’s going to have to deal with. We’ll hopefully get him back as soon as possible.”
Radu Dragusin - Out
A fresh blow, Dragusin is out for the season after suffering an ACL tear.
Dominic Solanke - Out
Solanke is out until later in the month, with Postecoglou saying of his knee issue: “Dom, who is probably a week behind them, the rest of them are slated to be back in the next week to 10 days to be available.”
Cristian Romero - Out
Romero is still out with his hamstring issue, and will be on a similar timeline to Solanke. Postecoglou has said: “Romero is a bit of a tricky one. We are not really sure yet. There is still some work he needs to do. It’s just a slower healer, and it is one we are looking at on a week-to-week basis.”
Wilson Odobert - Out
Postecoglou said last week: “They are all kind of around the same time - around 10 days. We are talking about Vicario, (Brennan) Johnson, Destiny (Udogie), Wilson (Odobert), and Timo (Werner).” That was around 10 days ago, but Postecoglou says none of the injured players will return here.
James Maddison - Out
Maddison has a calf injury and won’t be risked this weekend.
Destiny Udogie - Out
Udogie has a hamstring issue and will also remain out for another week.
Gugliemo Vicario - Out
Vicario should be close to a return, but he won’t be risked here.
Timo Werner - Out
Wener has a hamstring injury and should be close, but Postecoglou says he won’t risk anyone.
Brennan Johnson - Out
Johnson has a calf injury and the same goes for him as the above players.
Micky van de Ven - Out
Postecoglou said when asked about van de Ven: "We thought maybe Micky (van de Ven) was a chance for Thursday. It was the start of next week where we're still hopeful we'll get at least two, maybe three back for the Man United game. We've got two full weeks of training, which I think over these two weeks we'll get the majority of the players back with a bit of luck, provided we don't lose anyone else like we lost Richy last night. I knew this week was going to be a challenging week in terms of personnel, because we just weren't going to get anyone back, so there's no sort of disappointment that anyone missed out."
