Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has already spoken about his January transfer plans.

It has been a mixed season so far for Spurs, who were expected to be involved in the Premier League title race this season. Instead, Tottenham are currently fourth and eight points behind leaders Arsenal despite having played a game more. Conte and his men will be expected to step things up after the World Cup break, but it will be no easy task.

Tottenham have been inconsistent throughout this season, and they are not helped by the amount of games the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are having to play across club and country. This Spurs squad needs help if it is going to be able to compete at the highest level across the Premier League and the Champions League, and that’s something Conte warned way back in late October.

“I think the club understands very well the importance of bringing players, important players, in January or in the summer,” he said. “This season will be much more difficult than last season because after the transfer market you have seen many teams have improved a lot. You have to face a lot of big, big teams.

“For sure it will be the time to speak with the club at the right time to understand which is the best solution for us.”

Tottenham are likely to search for a centre-back during the winter window, while Conte may also look to add a new wing-back to provide support to the likes of Ivan Perisic and Emerson Royal. If time and money remains, Spurs will likely look to add competition and an understudy to Dejan Kulisevski, a need that was highlighted after a recent thigh injury to the Swedish forward.

Though, all that is much easier said than done in the notoriously tricky January window.
