Four years in a row they finished the Premier League season in the Champions League spots, forcing a rethink of the accepted ‘big four’. Players like Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane become world-beaters.

Speaking ahead of Pochettino’s first return to north London since his departure in 2019, Postecoglou says he expects the fans to show him some respect - even if he’s not going to get a guard of honour.

He told reporters ahead of the game: “It’s undoubted that he had an unbelievable impact on this football club. For all of us, that’s our ultimate goal. He had an undeniable impact on this club. His work is unquestioned. People I speak to here who worked with him can’t speak highly enough about him.

“I can’t imagine there will be anything but respect for Mauricio from the people at this club and the fans. He’s not going to get a guard of honour or anything because we want to win the game and he won’t expect that, but there will be respect for him.”

Tottenham have a brilliant start to life under Postecoglou who has made history by becoming the first Premier League manager to win eight games of his first 10 games.
