'Outstanding': Ange Postecoglou reacts as 24-year-old defender gets first international call-up in 12 months

Ange Postecoglou has improved a lot of the Spurs players who struggled under Antonio Conte.

Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has been rewarded for his brilliant performance for the Lilywhites this season with a recall into the Spain national team for international friendlies against  Colombia and Brazil this month.

In what has been an incredible start to life under manager Ange Postecoglou, Porro has eight assists in 24 league games and has shown enviable commitment. The biggest credit to him is perhaps that when he's been absent- the team has lacked something. His energy and infectious will to win robs off his teammates.

Spurs boss Postecoglou reacting to the news of Porro's first call-up since he's been at the club said the defender deserved it for his outstanding contribution so far. He told SPURSPLAY: “It’s brilliant and well deserved – he’s been outstanding all year.

"He’s worked awfully hard on his game on both the offensive and defensive side. We’ve obviously put some different demands on that position, but he’s adapted so well and credit to him, he’s worked really hard.

“He never let it get him down at any stage, the fact that he wasn’t part of the national team, I think it’s well-deserved and hopefully he gets an opportunity to show what he can do.”

Postecoglou has built a team where the full-backs have been the engine of their play, with Italian Destiny Udogie crashing into the Azzurri.

They will take on Fulham later this evening in the Premier League hoping to return to the top four of the league table for the first time this year with Villa not in action until Sunday.
