Tottenham got through the fourth round of the Carabao Cup but that came at a price.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is sweating over the fitness of two of his players after they were forced off during the 2-1 win against Coventry on Wednesday night.

For the most part, Spurs were second best, but it showed great mental strength that they were able to win in the end with goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson. However, with a Premier League game against Brentford approaching, Postecoglou lost Wilson Odobert in the first half, and Timo Werner limped off in the second.

When asked about both players after the game, the Spurs boss confirmed their injuries were concerning, though he didn’t know the full extent of them. He said: “Hard to say. Wilson’s looked fairly significant, so we'll just wait and see. Timo, again, not really sure if it was just fatigue, but yeah, a bit unfortunate for both of them. Obviously, both play in similar positions as well. We're hoping it's not something too significant.”

This has been a challenging week for Spurs, who lost the North London derby at home to Arsenal. It was particularly pleasing to see Brennan Johnson, who suffered abuse for his performance in the derby, score the winning goal to seal the victory against Coventry.

The next step will be to build on that win, especially against a Brentford side that is tough to play against and will be looking to cause an upset.

On the positive side, Postecoglou was able to rotate the squad midweek, so they should arrive at the weekend having progressed to the next round of the League Cup while also preparing for the Premier League with a relatively fresh team. They will also hope that midfielder Yves Bissouma, who has been injured and missed the last two games, will be ready for the Brentford match after returning to training.
