Ange Postecoglou breaks silence on Pedro Porro injury blow and 'embracing' painful Newcastle defeat

Pedro Porro was forced off in the second half against Newcastle and is now a doubt for the Arsenal game.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says he doesn't know how serious the injury to defender Pedro Porro was ahead of their next game in the Premier League against Arsenal

Porro was forced off in the second half of their 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United and Postecoglou says he felt something at half time and they thought he could ride it off before he was withdrawn.

The Spurs boss told reporters: “He felt something in the first half and he wanted to see how it went in the second half. I haven't checked with the medical team yet but we'll see what the issue is.”

Tottenham slipped out of the top four following a 4-0 defeat at St James’ Park and they now face a challenging end to the season with games against Manchester CityLiverpool and Arsenal all still to come before the end of the season.

Asked how difficult it could be to lift his team after such a heavy defeat the Spurs manager admitted they didn't have to feel sorry for themselves, but rather look to correct the mistakes they made.

He added: “The same as every other game. There's no point sitting around feeling sorry for yourself. There's another game in two weeks. We've just got to get ready for that.

“It's not the first time it's happened to us and it won't be the last. It's part of our growth. Sometimes that growth is painful. That's part of it and you've just got to be embracing it, use it and get ready for the next challenge.”

Both Spurs and Aston Villa have played the same number of games with Villa fourth due to having a better goal difference.
