Tottenham star Emerson Royal is expected to be out for three to six weeks after undergoing a meniscus operation in Brazil.

The right back injured his knee while playing for Brazil in their international friendly against Morocco last week.

His injury adds to that of fellow defender Ben Davies who picked up an injury just before the international break and forward Richarlison who also had some problems, but the latter is expected to be back for the visit to Everton this weekend.

Defender Emerson Royal hurriedly returned to London for an assessment before deciding to have the operation back home in Brazil with doctors he’s known for a while.

His father Emerson Zulu, who doubles up as his agent, predicted he’d be out for around two six weeks based on his genetic make up and recent recovery time.

He’s quoted by football.london: “The surgery went well, it really was the meniscus. Recovery is usually 3 to 6 weeks. But based on Royal’s genetics, I believe he will recover soon.

“My company has a multidisciplinary team and through the Heráclito Research and Analysis Center we carry out genetic tests on our players in a Spanish laboratory. On Monday he returns to England.”

The injury to Ben Davies, who has been one of the top performing players is expected to keep him out for while with injured captain Hugo Lloris, midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma as well as wing-back Ryan Sessegnon all struggling with fitness issues.
