'Absolute disgrace' - Daniel Levy hammered over management of 'cash cow' Tottenham
Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has been slammed over his handling of the club in recent times.
Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has been slammed over his running of the club amid one of the worst seasons in memory. Ange Postecoglou is coming under serious pressure with his side as low as 15th and just eight points above the drop zone.
Though, injuries have hampered Tottenham’s efforts all season, and Postecoglou has kept his job as a result, given he has a pretty valid excuse for overseeing a disastrous season, if not the depth of it.
But fans are now turning on Postecoglou, and they are also turning on Levy for his management of the club and the lack of serious investment on signings despite the success of the new stadium. As you can see at the top of this page, National World’s James Trembath said on the latest Spurs podcast: “Well, it's years and years of mismanagement. I mean, you know, to be fair to Daniel Levy, you've got a lot to thank him for, you know, new training ground, fantastic new stadium. But it's actually maybe been one of the worst things to happen to Tottenham because we've got this shiny new stadium, we've got the revenue pouring in and we've become a commercial cash cow and we've taken our eyes off the ball on the pitch.
“I think Pochettino once famously said, we've got a shiny new house, but there's no furniture to go in it. And we've just taken our eye off the ball on the pitch, and we've been bailed out time after time, as you say, by the likes of Kane, Son, and we're really paying the price for it now. You know, I actually thought the recruitment strategy was sort of working in the last sort of two years. We've signed some really, really good players.
“We've proved that you don't have to go out and spend hundreds of millions of pounds on players. The likes of Vicario, van de Ven, Solanke, you know, decent money, but not a huge top bracket. But we just don't do enough. We act, as I say, for a rich club, like we're completely desperate and we're rubbing two pennies together, and that's just an absolute disgrace.”
Trembath added: “Daniel Levy should have been lining up three new players for us come January the 1st to sort this injury crisis out, you know, whatever it takes. If you have to spend three or four million pounds extra on a player now, you do it to help the team, help the players, help the fans. The fans that are paying hundreds and hundreds of pounds, you know, to watch that absolute rubbish that we're being served up with, you know, because of the players that are on the knees and having to go to the well.
“I mean you saw after the Europa League game, you know, three or four players absolutely on the knees and the same players are turning out two days later in the Premier League. And, you know, it was always going to be a case against Leicester that, if we weren't out of sight by half time, the second half was always going to be a struggle. And that's just absolutely how it proved. But, you know, the tides turning, I think, against Daniel Levy now, and even the mainstream media is starting to pickup stories against him. There's a lot of movement to get him out. It isn't going to happen.
“But, what we need to do now is almost Daniel Levy turn to protect his investment. You know, he runs the club like a business. The business is failing and that is the football team. So, now he really does need to act and get his hand in his pocket and sort this mess out as quickly as possible.”
