It’s that time of year when clubs around the Premier League and beyond sweat over contract situations.

We are now less than four months away from the time of year when contracts officially expire, and a number of top-flight clubs face losing players for nothing.

That includes the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, with Alexandre Lacazette out of contract at the Emirates Stadium, while Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Antonio Rudiger will see their deals expire at Stamford Bridge.

But along with the contract issues, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and indeed West Ham can take advantage of players from elsewhere leaving for free.

And we run you through the best of the players heading for free agency this summer as things stand, with those Arsenal and Chelsea players not included, given the slim likelihood of those players making the move across London.

Paul Pogba - Man Utd

We start with the most high-profile players. Pogba is set to leave Manchester United this summer when his contract ends.

Talks have died down over a new deal, and while he will come with a huge salary, Chelsea could be tempted.

Though, given their healthy midfield situation and the likelihood of Pogba heading away from the Premier League, this one is very unlikely for the London clubs.

Divock Origi - Liverpool

Liverpool frontman Origi is set to hit the load having loyally served the Reds over the last four years despite little playing time.

The Belgian has developed a habit of turning up in big moments for Liverpool, and while it is likely the 26-year-old will seek regular first team football, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham could do a lot worse when it comes to adding depth.

James Tarkowski - Burnley

Tarkowski has caught the eye during Burnley’s defying of Premier League expectations over recent years.

If he departs this summer, when his contract is set to come to an end, the centre-back will likely have plenty of options.

Could one of the London clubs find a space for him?

Jesse Lingard - Man Utd

Lingard has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham after his successful loan spell at London Road.

Out of contract this summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him return to the Hammers, though others will likely provide competition.

Edinson Cavani - Man Utd

Cavani is on course to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

He was very useful last season but has struggled to make as big an impact this term due to injury.

At 35, he is unlikely to be a realistic option for the London clubs.

Teemu Pukki - Norwich

Pukki burst onto the scene with Norwich and has enjoyed a very successful spell at Carrow Road, netting 72 times in 145 league appearances.

He is out of contract this summer, though there is talk the Canaries have an option to extend.

If he does depart, Pukki could be a good back-up striker for Arsenal or Tottenham.

Juan Mata - Man Utd

Mata’s time at the very top level is likely coming to an end at the age of 33, but his positional awareness and experience continue to add value.

Chelsea are not going to sign him back, perhaps Mikel Arteta could be tempted given the Spanish connection.

This one looks one of the more unlikely signings for the London clubs.

James Milner - Liverpool

Milner has been key for Liverpool since arriving in 2015, quickly becoming a key leader and consistent performer.

He is out of contract this summer, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him offered another one-year deal.

If he doesn’t, he could add some serious leadership for Tottenham, or perhaps even Arsenal, even at the age of 36.
