'Medical Booked': QPR to beat Birmingham City and Rangers to 'exciting' basgman transfer
Birmingham City and Rangers had both been linked with a move for the in-demand Peterborough United forward.
QPR are set to sign Peterborough United forward Kwame Poku, beating competition from Championship rivals Birmingham City and Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers.

Football Insider reports that the 23-year-old is set for a medical at Loftus Road despite interest from the Midlands and north of the border. Poku’s contract at Peterborough United is up at the end of the month and he is available on a free transfer.
The outlet adds that QPR have agreed a compensation fee with Peterborough United, where Poku has been a star man since joining from Colchester in 2021. The forward bagged 12 goals and 11 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions over the 2024/25 season, despite missing a run of games with a hamstring injury.
QPR book medical for Peterborough United forward
He is now set to make the step up to the Championship. The Birmingham Mail claim that Birmingham City had been in pole position to sign the player at one stage following their promotion from League One last term. Meanwhile, new Rangers boss Russell Martin was said to be holding personal talks with the player to convince him to come to Ibrox.
However, it appears to be QPR who have won the race, so long as all goes to plan with the medical. The R’s have lacked a prolific presence up front in recent seasons and sold Sinclair Armstrong to Bristol City for £2.5 million last summer.
Zan Celar was brought in from FC Lugano but endured a thoroughly underwhelming campaign, scoring just two goals in his 22 outings. Michael Frey was the team’s top scorer last season with eight league goals.
Kwame Poku labelled ‘very skillful player’
Poku is more traditionally a wide player than a centre forward but promises to add goals to the QPR side next season. It remains to be seen who leads the west London club with Marti Cifuentes still on gardening leave, but all signs appear to be pointing to the appointment of former Rennes boss Julien Stephan.
Peterborough United's director of football, Barry Fry, has spoken highly of Poku as transfer rumours swirl, claiming that the forward had 30 suitors. He told the Daily Record: "Kwame’s top drawer. The Rangers fans would absolutely love him if he went up to Scotland.
"He's a very, very skilful player. A very exciting player. He gets the ball and you get on the end of your seat. I think wherever he goes, he'll be a fan's favourite because he's such an exciting player. But he scores goals too and creates them.
"In truth, I could have sold him on January 1. There was a dozen top clubs in the Championship, wanted him then to push forward, but he was injured."
