QPR and Millwall are hoping for an extra push from home support under the lights this week.

It was a busy weekend of Championship action as the second tier returned following the international break with QPR and Millwall both in action at home.

Another flurry of midweek matches is next up, with both London clubs afforded the chance to stay in the capital with Coventry City and Plymouth Argyle visiting Loftus Road and The Den.

Marti Cifuentes pleads to QPR faithful

QPR are yet to record a home win in the league this season. The only time the Loftus Road faithful have tasted victory this term came in the Carabao Cup against Luton Town - and even that was a nervy affair, progress only secured via a penalty shootout.

Last weekend's visit of Portsmouth was nothing short of a must-win for Marti Cifuentes, and his R's side failed to do so. Next up is Coventry City, who are also enduring a rocky ride and sit just one point above QPR.

Previewing that match when speaking to the club website, the Catalan coach pleaded for help from the home crowd. He said: "For me, it is very important that everybody understands where we are and everybody understands how important this game will be for us.

“I know that all of us were very disappointed after Portsmouth but I am sure that the supporters will understand that they can play a very important part of our game, they lifted our game so much last season.

“I am going to ask them for help in this moment because I know the team is not playing at the level that we want and the team perhaps is missing confidence. Usually, I am the first to say it is our performances that we need to lift the crowd but in this moment I think they can play a very important part in this.

“Hopefully it will be one of those days with this atmosphere that I know Loftus Road can produce in an evening game."

Neil Harris wants Millwall to make The Den ‘intimidating’

Cifuentes isn't the only Championship coach in London hoping that supporters can give his side the extra push to pick up three points this week. Millwall boss Neil Harris sent a similar message to the Lions' faithful over the weekend.

Having salvaged a late point against Derby County, the 47-year-old shared his desire to make The Den an 'intimidating' place for Wayne Rooney and his Plymouth Argyle side on Wednesday night.

He said: “It’s a huge game on Wednesday, another great opportunity for us playing at The Den.

"It’s absolutely vital for us as a Millwall team to make this place as hostile and be as aggressive as we can and be as intimidating for the opponent to come to. Largely our performances here have been really good. Even today we were clearly the better team in the game, but we have to make sure we get the points return that matches that.

“We’re looking forward to Wednesday, it’s another opportunity for us to play in front of our fan base. It’ll be a slightly different atmosphere I’d imagine on Wednesday. It’s a long way for Plymouth fans to come. It’s not the most exciting, sexiest of games on the calendar. Wednesday evening, Plymouth against Millwall at The Den. So we have to create atmosphere. I’d be excited if the game was tomorrow. We’ll be ready to go by Wednesday.”

Leeds United survive injury scare ahead of Watford

Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto should be fit to face Watford in midweek but Whites boss Daniel Farke did admit he was 'nervous' about the player's fitness, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Italian international went down early on in the game against Sheffield United last weekend, holding his shoulder in pain. Farke sent Daniel Jones and Manor Solomon to warm up but Gnonto stayed on the pitch.

Speaking after the game, Farke said: "I was very close [to substituting him]. I brought Manor Solomon to the bench and had taken off his tracksuit, but Willy gave a signal that it was getting better.

"I was a bit nervous after the game, sometimes with adrenaline you can get through but there's a serious injury. We scanned him and thankfully it was just a bruise so he is available."
