QPR set for huge contract boost as Daniel Farke makes 'softer' Leeds United claim
All the latest news surrounding the Championship clubs as another big weekend of action gets going.
Millwall and QPR will not be putting the final touches on their preparations for another big weekend of Championship action. The Lions take on Preston this weekend, while the Hoops take on high-flying Blackburn Rovers away from home.
The Championship is beginning to take shape, although it will be some time before we get a clear picture of where teams are heading. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the Championship clubs.
Contract boost on the table
QPR are said to be working on a new deal for defender Jake Clarke-Salter in what could be a huge boost, according to Football Insider. Clarke-Salter was tipped to be snapped up by rival clubs in the summer but ultimately stayed put.
According to the report, the Hoops are now looking to reward him for his consistent performances with a new contract. Clarke-Salter is out of contract in 2026, and it’s likely that deal will see at least two years added to it as well as an improved wage should a new contract be agreed.
Farke makes ‘softer’ claim
Daniel Farke has suggested some of his Leeds United players are ‘softer’ than other when issuing an injury update. He said, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post: “[There are] Some softer players on the pitch and some who are more warrior mentality. It depends also on the position, I have to say.
"If you are a creative player who needs to express himself, even a little problem it can kill his head. Sometimes perhaps a solid defender can deal with a bruise or something. There are differences."
Wilder defends Moore
Chris Wilder has defended Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore amid a slow start for the Welshman with the Blaes. "He’s a team player," Wilder told The Star. "We've played six games and won four and drew two. He's led the line and worked tirelessly. I really don't care where the goals come from. Just as long as we win games of football.
“Expectation levels, opinion split, or whatever - get behind the players, please. Let's be together, let's not start on any of that nonsense. Social media yet again rearing its head. Get behind the boy. He gives everything for the team. He's a team player. He's playing for bangs and bruises right the way through.
"Go and ask the players. Go and ask Callum O'Hare, go and ask Gus Hamer, go and ask Harry Souttar, go and ask Alan Knill and ask Jack Lester [First-team coaches at Sheffield United and the Welsh national side] what they think of Kieffer Moore. They’d all give the same answer."
