'Make that progression' - Pundit tells Millwall to sign 'instrumental' former Premier League star
Millwall are said to be considering a deal for a former Premier League midfielder.
One pundit has backed Millwall’s potential signing of a former Premier League midfielder. The Lions are gearing up for what looks to be a fascinating campaign, and Alex Neil’s first full season in charge.

The Lions were within a whisker of the play-offs last season, and it will be interesting to see if they can go one better, and indeed maintain their recent progress next term. Recruitment will be key, and along with paid signings, we could see some free deals done.
One of those could involve former Ipswich Town midfielder Massimo Luongo, who was released by Ipswich Town following their relegation from the Premier League. Former QPR man Luongo was key to Ipswich’s promotion to the Premier League, and he made 11 league appearances in the Premier League last season.
But at 32 years of age, his release was always likely, and according to The Mirror, Luongo is now training with Millwall in a bid to find a new club. The Lions could consider offering a contract, and pundit Don Goodman has backed the move, telling Football League World: “I could see Massimo Luongo being a great fit at Millwall. I could see that being a good move.
“When you go back to Luongo's last Championship season, he was an instrumental part in Ipswich's wonderful success and the season before that, it was the same again, when him and Sam Morsy created a brilliant partnership in Kieran McKenna’s midfield. He’s got a wealth of experience at Championship level and would be a good addition for Millwall, who on the back of last season's excellent end, will be hoping that they can progress a little bit more. If they can make that progression, they're going to be in and around it next year.”
McKenna’s praise
Speaking at the end of last season, Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna said: “We had a good chat with Massimo yesterday, I think it’s right that he gets the opportunity on the last day to have clarity and I know the supporters will want to give him a good reception and wish him well. In return, he will want a chance to say goodbye and play a part in a good team performance.
“It’s going to be sad to see him go, he’s been a fantastic player. His record from when he arrived for the next 18 months speaks for itself, probably goes down as one of the best win records of anyone in EFL history, certainly for a free transfer. So it has been an incredible journey that he has been a very big part of and I think he’s still got some great football ahead of him.
“That was a part of the decision between us, in that I think he deserves the chance to go out and play a lot of football next year because he’s still got some good football in him. Massimo goes with everyone’s respect and best wishes, and gratitude for what he has done over the last couple of seasons. Looking forward to what he can do next season as well.”
