What Alex Neil has said about new season

Speaking to Southwark News about his plans this summer, Millwall boss Alex Neil said: “I think we’re always looking to strengthen at the first team level,” Neil said last Thursday, June 5. “It’s not just a case of strength in-depth.

“I think what will happen is there’ll be opportunities in the market that will present themselves, and there’ll be others that we would like to pursue that might not come off for a variety of different reasons, whether it be finances, whether it be going to another team, whether it be, somebody maybe doesn’t want to move, logistics, whatever the case may be.

“But what we’ve had internal discussions about is: we want to come out this window in a stronger position than when we went into it, so that’s really quite clear. Jimmy wants to invest in the club, invest in the squad, and try and improve us, but it’s not as easy as that. We’re not playing Championship Manager where you can just go and say, right, we’ll buy him and thanks you very much we’ll send you over that money. That’s not the way things work in reality.

“So there’s a lot of hard work that goes behind the scenes. The recruitment team, Steve Gallen, who’s obviously leading all that sort of side of things up is, pretty much on the phone 24/7. But, yeah, there’s huge amounts of work going on behind the scenes, and we’re confident that we’ll be in good shape coming to the start of this season.”

What Julien Stephan has said about new season

A recent appointment, new QPR boss Julien Stephan said upon arrival: “QPR is a historic club with strong values and passionate fans, so I feel honoured. I wanted to come here because I know there's a lot of passion around the club and around the team, and I feel very lucky to discover that. There is something unique about English football. The intensity, the atmosphere, the passion of the fans also, the tempo of the game, the culture around the club all make it a very stimulating environment for a coach.

“I like my team to play with intensity, energy and personality. I believe in collective organisation and also clear identity - but also in giving players freedom to express themselves. I like courage and I want brave players – they are the players who take initiative because I think to have emotion in football, we have to take risks.”

What Nathan Jones has said about new season

Charlton boss said earlier this month when speaking to the club website: “I’m really looking forward to being back at The Valley, I think it’s important we started here [at The Valley] to get acclimatised to the Championship and to continue that momentum that we finished with in the play-offs. We’re delighted to get underway in a league that we’ve worked so hard to get into.

“You look at the derbies like Millwall. You also look for your old clubs, and going back to Wales, as well as the fixtures around Christmas. We won’t put too much of an emphasis on individual games though, what we have to do is make sure were really competitive.”
