Millwall are on the hunt for a new manager but also have several expiring contracts of first team stars to deal with.

It's looking to be an incredibly busy month at The Den for Millwall after the club was rocked by the news of Neil Harris' departure from his role as head coach.

The need for a change in management comes at the busiest time of the year for fixtures and with the January transfer window looming large. The Lions also have several first team players whose contracts are due to expire at the end of the current campaign, awaiting extension negotiations.

Millwall director of football Steve Gallen told Millwall TV: “As you can imagine a couple of agents of players are ringing me up and asking me. The first thing to say is we have got a few out of contract and them lads are doing really, really well. My advice to those players is to just keep doing that.

“I’ve been speaking to the chairman about this and the rest of the board, we all feel we can’t start talking about contracts with anybody until we know we are in a safe position, that we’re not looking over our shoulder. We want to keep looking up the table but at the moment there won’t be contract talks with anybody whose contract is running out at the end of the season."

LondonWorld looks at the seven Millwall players currently set to leave the club come the end of the 2024/25 season.

Tom Bradshaw

The striker had an appearance-based clause triggered in his contract towards the end of last season that kept him at The Den for another campaign. Speaking at the time, Bradshaw told NewsArDen:  “I’ve loved my time at Millwall. I think this is my sixth season now and it’s a club where I’ve felt at home since day one and it’s quite rare in football to stay at a club for this amount of time. I’m over the moon that my contract has been extended and it’s great news for myself and my family.”

Over the summer, Football Insider did report that several Championship and League One clubs were monitoring the player's situation as his contract comes towards an end, which could make for an interesting January window.

Signed for Millwall from Middlesbrough in 2021 but his contract is set to expire next summer with no confirmation of a renewal yet. The 30-year-old has 13 goals in 69 appearances for the Lions.

Shaun Hutchinson

Has been with Millwall since 2016, racking up 267 appearances for the outfit. The club re-signed the captain on a one-year deal this summer after he had initially been released.

Connal Trueman

The goalkeeper had his contract extended in 2023 to last until 2025. Trueman arrived at Millwall from Birmingham City in 2022. Reacting to that new deal at the time, goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall said: “I am really pleased that Connal will be remaining at the club for the upcoming season.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with him since his arrival, he has a terrific work ethic and is a valued member of the squad.”

Billy Mitchell

Signed a 'long-term' contract with the club in 2020 that is widely reported to be expiring in 2025. The 23-year-old is a product of the Millwall academy and a boyhood Lions fan.

Ryan Wintle

The Cardiff City midfielder arrived at The Den on a season-long loan deal towards the end of August. He's made 12 Championship appearances so far this term, coming in and out of the side under Neil Harris. Wintle is due to return to Wales at the end of the season.

Looked a real coup when snapped up from Championship rivals Middlesbrough on a season-long loan deal but has been plagued by injury. At the time, Coburn admitted that the now departed Harris played a huge role in convincing him to make the temporary move to London.

He said: "That was a massive part in me coming here. He was saying how much he helps the strikers and how much he likes to do one-on-one sessions.

"He has already helped me in training with little movements. That is really going to benefit me this season. It’s a massive club. After speaking to the gaffer I knew it was a really good one to come to. It was the right move for me."
