Millwall new manager likely candidates, including ex-Coventry City, Stoke City and Birmingham bosses

The latest candidates for the Millwall job as Neil Harris walks away from his post.

Millwall’s search for a new manager will now step up a notch after Neil Harris said goodbye. Harris announced he would be leaving the club after Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough, and that means his latest spell at The Den has now concluded.

Harris has done good work in his latest spell, guiding the club to Championship safety, while the Lions still have time to make up ground on the playoffs this term, with more than half of the season still to play.

The tricky part for Millwall is that they must now find and appoint a new manager while hoping the transition is seamless enough to allow them to remain in the mix. Meanwhile, the festive fixtures are just around the corner, with games coming thick and fast from this point on.

Who the Lions will turn to remains to be seen, but a number of bosses have been linked with the post. Former Coventry City boss Mark Robins appears to be the favourite, although it has been suggested that he is taking a break. Walsall boss Mat Sadler has also been linked, while former Preston boss Ryan Lowe is also said to be in the mix.

Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield has also been linked, as well as former Stoke City boss Steven Schumacher and ex-Lions boss of four years Gary Rowett is also believed to be in the mix.

As the search goes on, Millwall chief Steve Gallen has said: “A comprehensive recruitment process is already underway for a new head coach. The direction we as a club want to head in is clear and the next head coach will play a pivotal role in helping us execute our strategy.”

Lions chairman James Berylson has added: “As we look forward, the appointment of our next head coach will align with the clear strategy and vision I have previously laid out for the future of Millwall Football Club, both on and off the pitch.”
