Peterborough United are set to drive a hard bargain for the talented winger but have no shortage of transfer interest.

Millwall are reported to have entered the transfer race for rising Peterborough United star Kwame Poku with the London outfit ready to rival Burnley and Blackburn Rovers interest in the 23-year-old.

That's according to TBR Football, with Premier League sides Southampton and Ipswich Town also said to be potential suitors. Glasgow giants Rangers could also look to bring Poku to the Scottish Premiership.

The flurry of transfer links comes after an impressive star to the 2024/25 campaign for the midfielder, who has been with the Posh since the summer of 2021. Poku has plundered 10 goals and five assists in just 15 League One appearances this term.

Millwall transfer target is ‘unplayable’ this season

Last time out, the player scored a hat-trick against Cambridge United and picked up an assist in that match as he inspired Peterborough United to a 6-1 win. Speaking after that match, Posh boss Darren Ferguson labelled Poku as 'unplayable' but admitted that it may be hard to keep him at the Weston Homes Stadium forever.

Ferguson said: “Kwame is just unplayable at the moment. I would hate to play against him. He needs to give someone else a chance of winning player of the month. They’ll have to rename it the Kwame Poku Trophy!

“The boy is unplayable at the moment, he’s just so good. He deserves all the plaudits and all the credit. That's why we had to keep him in the summer. There were offers for him and there will be more offers for him. We’re trying to keep him and have offered him a new contract. Me and the chairman are trying our best, but it will be very tough and you can see why.

“If you watch him, the stats don’t lie. I’m just enjoying working with the boy. He will admit though that it wasn’t just about him yesterday as it was a very good team performance.”

Poku certainly has the credentials to fit into the Neil Harris system at Millwall and follow in the footsteps of tricky young wingers Romain Esse and Femi Azeez. However, any Lions move may have to wait until the summer and not come cheap.

Peterborough United believe player will cost £30m one day

The winger's current contract at Peterborough United doesn't expire until June 2025 and chairman Darragh McAnthony has been outspoken with his plans on selling the player, having rejected a £6 million offer in the summer.

He said: "There are many things a tribunal takes into account when setting a transfer fee. The offers we have already had are part of that as are his appearances, his goals, the contract offer we have made him and what we have paid out in transfer fees ourselves so we will still get millions and millions for him. We did make him a club record offer, but he knows it’s time for him to go to the next level. We hope he wins promotion with us first.

"Kwame probably won’t go to the Premier League straight away, but he will get a high-end Championship club. He will be a Premier League star in the future and that next move will probably cost £30 million.

"We spent £250k on him initially, plus half a million in add ons since then. He’s top drawer. He has everything, a great technique, pace and physicality.

"It will have been a pleasure to have him for four years, but he will leave with our best wishes. Fans should stop worrying about players leaving for better things as it’s the law of the jungle, the nature of the beast and new heroes will come in.”
