Fabrizio Romano issues transfer update on Millwall's 'unbelievable' attacker amid interest

Millwall could lose one of their most talented players ahead of the new season.

Millwall’s battle to keep star striker Mihailo Ivanovic may have just got a lot more difficult. The Lions paid £2.8million to sign the 20-year-old from Vojvodina, and it has proved to be a very smart signing.

Ivanovic scored 12 times in 37 league games in his first season at the club, taking the move to English football in his stride. But with such performances come transfer interest, and Millwall fans will be plenty concerned by talk of interest from Parma and other European clubs.

While there is plenty of excitement around what Alex Neil can do with Millwall in his first full season in charge, especially after a hugely impressive finish to last season, there is no hiding that Ivanovic is a big part of the optimism for the new campaign.

The Lions will not want to sell, but if a top division club comes calling, they might find it difficult to convince Ivanovic that his best course of action is to stay, while the quick and significant profit may also be tough for the club to turn down.

The latest twist involves a decision from Ivanovic himself, and it seems the young striker might be preparing himself for a move. Fabrizio Romano has posted on X: “Milwall 20 year old striker Mihailo Ivanović has signed with Unique Sports Group as new agents. Several clubs keen on signing the talented forward, Parma and not only - more clubs in the race.”

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie recently discussed the transfer links surrounding Ivanovic, telling Football League World: "It's a real tough one. Millwall will be doing all they can to keep hold of him. This is where money and budgets come into play, and with Parma, obviously, they're a very good football club, and I'm sure he'll be tempted by the switch, and that's no disrespect to Millwall."

Neil’s big praise

Millwall boss Neil has piled praise on Ivanovic and his potential. He said of the striker in early April: “Any 20-year-old that leads the line in the Championship and can get nearly [10 goals], and he’ll get double figures before the end of the season. If you do that, that’s an unbelievable season and it won’t be surprising me if people start talking about him.

“I’ve already seen something the other day talking about the top 10 young talents in Europe – he’s one of them. He’s 20 years of age, there are very few strikers at that age that will lead the line at this level and also score goals, so he deserves all the plaudits he gets. It was a particularly tight game today and I think physicality was the order of the day, hence the reason why I wasn’t making changes earlier because the players I was bringing on were all smaller. I didn’t want to take that risk, but I thought when they did come on, they impacted the game really well.”
