Former Millwall star John Fashanu has claimed that the club is undergoing a culture change under returning manager Neil Harris. The 61-year-old heaped praise on Harris' Lions side, who have been rejuvenated since the former player's return at the end of February.

Millwall stunned Southampton at St Mary's Stadium in Harris' first match in charge, winning 2-1. The club then went on to beat Watford and Birmingham City either side of a draw to Blackburn Rovers, after Joe Edwards had won just four of his 19 matches in charge.

The London club were defeated by Leeds United in Yorkshire last time out but that result won't dent the mood among supporters, who have felt a sea change since Harris' return - the club record goalscorer spent over four years managing the side between 2015 and 2019.

Next up for the side is the visit of West Brom to The Den on Good Friday as Millwall look to bounceback from Leeds defeat. Where Millwall are fighting for survival, the Baggies are looking to keep a play-off place, making it look to be a feisty meeting.

Former Millwall star Fashanu, who racked up 50 league appearances for the club between 1984 and 1986, has noted a culture change at the club under Harris with a focus on performances rather than intimidation. He told luckyblock.com: “Millwall have been great since Neil Harris took over! Neil is doing a brilliant job. Managing Millwall is certainly a difficult job, with difficult players and a very aggressive style of play. At least, that is the way we played!

“We scared people and if we’d have tried to play on our skills rather than our ability to scare people, then we would’ve lost every match. We won half of our matches simply by being bullies. Neil Harris has come in and changed things which is what he would’ve wanted to do at a new club. This is a new Millwall, you can’t compare this team to the Millwall of old.

“I’m confident that they can avoid relegation this season. They won’t be relegated. Those days of struggling to stay up at Millwall have gone. I believe that they have one or two individuals who can step up and save the day, such as Zian Flemming or Japhet Tanganga.

“So many times people write off Millwall, whether it be at the start of a season or part-way through, and say they’re already as good as relegated, only for them to creep back up and surprise everyone. I’ve heard and seen it all before – they won’t be going down this season.”
