Fulham vs Aston Villa early injury news with 4 out and 5 doubtful
Fulham are back in Premier League action this weekend following the international break
Fulham take on Aston Villa at Craven Cottage this Saturday. They were beaten 3-2 away at Manchester City last time out and are sat in 8th place in the Premier League table.
The Whites have 11 points on the board from their first seven fixtures and are three behind their upcoming opponents. Here is a look at the latest team news regarding the pair....
Fulham
Fulham defender Jorge Cuenca has missed their last two games against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City with an ankle injury and will need to be assessed. He joined them over the summer from Villarreal.
Striker Carlos Vinicius hasn’t played at all yet this season due to a calf problem. They will need to make checks on him and decide when is best to throw him back into the squad.
Meanwhile, midfielder Saka Lucic has sustained an injury to his right acromioclavicular joint on international duty with Serbia. He has therefore emerged as a doubt.
Speaking after their defeat at the Etihad Stadium in their last outing, Silva said: “We have to be really unhappy with the result. That’s the first thing and it’s a feeling that we all share in our dressing room.
“Of course, looking at the performance and the way the players stuck with the plan, they executed it really well and performance-wise it was a very good one. Looking at the chances that we did create throughout the game and comparing with City, we deserved more. But that’s football.
“It’s a process for the next time we have these types of chances to be able to score more and get a different result, but coming here to the Etihad, scoring twice and probably having four more clear chances to score is not easy to achieve and we did it.
“We defended a little bit deeper than we normally like to. That was the plan. Even if you don’t have that plan, City have the capacity to push you back and we did. We changed the position of Alex (Iwobi) and Adama (Traoré) because we wanted to explore some things in the way they set up when they’re in attack.”
Aston Villa
As for Aston Villa, defender Ezri Konsa has sustained a hamstring issue and didn’t play for England in their recent Nations League clashes against Greece and Finland. He picked up the blow against Manchester United and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit for this weekend.
Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey are also doubts for the visitors, whilst John McGinn, Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are still sidelined and won’t feature against Fulham.
After their draw against United, Emery said: “I’m very happy with the month we did. Today, in the first half we didn’t control the match like we were preparing before. In the second half we changed some positions on the field and the reaction of the players was better than the first half. We controlled better, avoided their transition and avoided some of their attacks getting into our box.”
