Fulham are reportedly looking to bolster their midfield department before the end of the January transfer window. Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure is the player who Marco Silva apparently wants.

That’s according to Sky Sports (live transfer blog, 23.01.23, 13.45), who claim the Whites are ‘keen’ on landing the Mali international this winter. He worked with Silva at former club Watford.

However, Fulham are facing a stumbling block in their pursuit of the 30-year-old as Everton are unsure on whether to let him depart as they battle against relegation. In addition, his future will now depend on who the Toffees appoint as their new boss after sacking Frank Lampard.

Joao Palhinha and Harrison Reed have both been in fine form for the Cottagers in the heart of midfield this term but they could do with some more competition in the middle of the park, especially if Josh Onomah departs. Doucoure fits the bill as he is experienced and has proven himself in the Premier League in the past.

It is yet to be known whether the London club will be able to strike a deal to lure him to Craven Cottage. In the meantime, it appears bringing in a right-back is their priority.

Elsewhere, Fulham have been linked with Preston North End midfielder Ben Whiteman. However, in this latest update in the Evening Standard, he is seen as a ‘summer target’.
