Former Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke’s full debut for DC United didn’t quite go to plan yesterday.

The attacker missed a penalty as his new club drew 0-0 at home to Colorado Rapids.

Benteke, 31, played the full 90 minutes for the MLS club but missed a spot-kick on 66 minutes (see tweet below):

New chapter after Crystal Palace spell

Benteke will be looking to put his penalty blunder behind him as soon as possible as he looks to make a name for himself in America.

He is now managed by Wayne Rooney and is also a teammate of ex-Premier League midfielder Ravel Morrison.

The Belgium international played for Crystal Palace from 2016 to 2022, having previously been on the books at Genk, Standard Liege, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Benteke went on to make 177 appearances during his six years at Selhurst Park and chipped in with 37 goals.

He played 31 times last term and found the net four times before being given the green light to leave and join DC United last month on a two-and-a-half year deal.

According to O Jogo (via Sport Witness) representatives from the London outfit were spotted at the Gil Vicente and FC Porto match with it unknown who they were specifically watching at this moment in time.
