Former Crystal Palace coach Keith Millen has been appointed as Head of Academy coaching at Gillingham. The 56-year-old is back in the game in League Two.

His last role was manager of Carlisle United in the fourth tier and he joined the Cumbrian outfit in October 2021. However, he was dismissed from his post at Brunton Park in February last year.

Millen, who is from Croydon, spent his playing days at Brentford, Watford and Bristol City before starting his coaching career with the latter after hanging up his boots. He also had a brief spell as the Robins’ boss during the 2010/11 season.

Crystal Palace brought in Millen as assistant manager to Ian Holloway following his departure from Ashton Gate after he had a stint at Blackpool. He went on to spend four years at Selhurst Park and had a few separate spells as caretaker manager during his time with the Eagles.

Following his exit from the South London club six years ago, Millen has since worked at Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, MK Dons and most recently Carlisle. He now links up with a Gillingham side who have turned their fortunes around this term and are in decent form under ex-Millwall man Neil Harris.
