£21m Ex-Serie A defender reignites £21m Crystal Palace vs Newcastle summer transfer battle
Crystal Palace are reportedly in the process to begin talks with Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde. However, they are set to face a familiar foe with Newcastle also said to be in the mix for the 23-year-old’s signature, according to Turkish news outlet Aslinda, via GiveMeSport.
The Eagles and Magpies are already battling it out over the potential departure of centre-back and Selhurst Park star Marc Guehi to St. James’ Park but it appears that both are eyeing Oosterwolde as a Guehi alternative.

Hide AdThe news comes after it emerged this morning that Palace head coach Oliver Glasner was pushing for a reunion with VFL Wolfsburg central defender Maxence Lacroix as continency plans for Guehi’s departure begin to take place.
Dutch star Oosterwolde enjoyed an impressive season in the Turkish Super Lig, making 39 appearances and scoring twice as Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on the domestic title to Galatasary. His displays have since sparked interest from several Premier League sides and it was West Ham that had previously eyed a move for the defender as they looked to bolster their back-line.
Despite the former interest from their rivals, it would now appear that it is just the south London club and Newcastle that are said to have ‘commenced efforts’ to sign the former Palma star. The two clubs are now said to be waiting to begin negotiations with the Istanbul-based side who will be wanting £21 million for Oosterwolde.
Football analyst Ben Mattinson describing the defensive star as having ‘electric pace, aerial presence and a good technical ability’. Having been used by Jose Mourinho at both centre-back and left-back, Oliver Glasner appears to have identified the versatile defender as to fill the potential void of England star Guehi while the Magpies may well be looking at Oosterwolde as a defensive option if the extensive transfer saga with the 24-year-old, £70m-rated, Englishman fails.

A move away from Istanbul for the former FC Twente and Palma defender Oosterwolde could mark the second of two defensive assets Fenerbahce lose in August. Former Arsenal target and one of Turkey’s European Championship stars Ferdi Kadioglu is set for his own Premier League arrival after transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano took to X to confirm that ‘personal terms remain done’ and a contract terms had been ‘100% agreed.’
