Crystal Palace are looking to protect their asset after what has been a bright campaign for the French forward.

Crystal Palace are looking to secure their asset by offering striker Jean-Philippe Mateta a new contract after what has been his best season at the club.

The 26-year-old has been sensational under Oliver Glasner and his form has not gone unnoticed with Italian press reporting that he’s one player Napoli is keeping an eye on if Victor Osimhen leaves the club in the summer.

Mateta first joined Palace on loan from Mainz 05 in 2021, before making the deal permanent and signing a five-year contract in 2022. LondonWorld has been told the entire package of his deal is around a six-year stay in south London with the club having one-year options if they wanted to extend his stay.

But sources have also now said the Eagles are working behind the scenes to offer him a new long-term contract at Selhurst after he’s established himself as the main striker of the team with 19 goals in a truly frightening campaign.

Before this season, the best he’s scored was five goals and his form has prompted manager Oliver Glasner to reveal he wanted the club to keep him and both Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze.

Glasner told Mirror after the final: "I am very confident they'll be here because they have contracts and no one has told me they'll be leaving. I think what we have done is that we have shown them that Crystal Palace have ambition.

"We have shown them how we want to play, which path we want to go down, which journey we want to ride together. They can show their strengths, qualities and personalities and express themselves.

"They fit together. This is what we can do. If something else happens, then this is football. But Crystal Palace will be able to build a new Selhurst - because it will cost a lot of money.

Palace finished an impressive 10th on the league table, equalling their highest finish in Premier League history and the best points tally.
