Crystal Palace 'suspicions' over £30m man's injury as club look to challenge Fulham for January transfer

Eddie Nketiah has picked up an injury, which may have happened away from club training.

Crystal Palace look for just their second Premier League win of the season this weekend in a London derby against Fulham at Selhurst Park.

The Cottagers make the short trip buoyed by a dramatic win over Brentford on Monday night with eight places separating Marco Silva's side in 9th and Oliver Glasner's men in 17th.

LondonWorld looks at the latest news from Crystal Palace ahead of this weekend's Premier League action.

Crystal Palace ‘suspicions’ over Nketiah injury

Crystal Palace hold 'suspicions' that an injury sustained by forward Eddie Nketiah was picked up in a training session away from the club's schedule. According to Sami Mokbel, that discovery is said to be a 'deep concern' for Palace as they now look to navigate the player potentially facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

The former Arsenal man arrived at Selhurst Park for £30 million this summer but has struggled to find his feet on the other side of London. Nketiah is yet to score in the league in his seven outings with his only Palace goal to date coming in the Carabao Cup against QPR.

The Daily Mail reports that the club fear Nketiah could have been overworking himself out of the assigned training schedule at a time when the 17th-placed side struggle for results.

Eagles to challenge Fulham for £25m January swoop

That Nketiah blow comes amid somewhat of a goalscoring crisis for Crystal Palace. The Eagles have managed just eight goals in their 10 Premier League matches so far this term, the second-lowest tally in the division.

As a result, it is thought that the South London club are actively looking at bringing in more firepower come the January window. Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson is one such option but is famously injury-prone while Stade Reims youngster Oumar DIakite has also been linked.

However, in a new report from CaughtOffside, it appears that Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel could become the number one target for Glasner. Crystal Palace aren't the only club said to be interested in the player according to the report with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest named, alongside this weekend's opponents Fulham.

Just 19 years old, Tel is still considered a key part of Bayern Munich's future having arrived at the outfit for £25 million in 2022. However, the player is used very sparingly by Thomas Tuchel, which could see a Premier League loan given the green light.

Speaking about the player, Tuchel recently said: “Hopefully we can find the right moments to bring [Tel] on because he has this raw type of energy as a striker that you find very, very rarely. He has this raw physicality, this huge power in his body. His finishing is very, very good. It’s our job to keep him going.”
