Fulham player ratings - 'Sublime' 10/10 and unplayable' 9 as Brentford dealt Harry Wilson suckerpunch
Marco Silva watched his Fulham side make hard work of beating Brentford on Monday night.
Fulham left it late to earn a very deserved three points against Brentford under the lights at Craven Cottage on Monday night.
It was a bright start to the West London derby for the hosts with Emile Smith-Rowe pulling the strings in midfield and sliding through Reiss Nelson early doors - the winger brought a good double save from Mark Flekken but perhaps should have squared the ball with Alex Iwobi and Raul Jimenez screaming in front of goal.
Despite a promising start, it was the Bees who opened the scoring out of nowhere as Vitaly Janelt rocketed home a screamer from distance, although Marco Silva won't have been happy to see Calvin Bassey give the ball away so casually in the run-up.
That goal did little to deter a Cottagers side who continued to dominate their local rivals. Alex Iwobi and Nelson swapped flanks just before half-time with the former then teeing up Smith-Rowe whose clever flicked header came close to nestling into the back of the net.
It was more of the same after the break as Fulham enjoyed large spells of possession but huffed and puffed without luck. Several dangerous balls were flashed across the box as wingers enjoyed success on the flanks, but Silva’s side lacked someone wanting to finish those moves.
The hosts deserved something from the game and it was substitute Harry Wilson who got them that. Adama flashed yet another ball across goal and the winger’s improvised flick floated beautifully over a grimacing Flekken. The Welshman was at it again moments later with a second in injury time, this one with his head. Here’s how the Fulham players rated.
GK - Bernd Leno, 7

Had very little to do, collecting the couple crosses Brentford put in nicely and stayed awake late to bat away an injury time Brentford chance. Would be harsh to suggest he could have done more to stop the goal.
LB - Antonee Robinson, 9
Might have been expected to have a quiet night with an in-form Bryan Mbeumo to deal with but quite the opposite. So positive when he gets the ball, some of his moments of vision tonight were truly fantastic, grabbing the assist for the winner.
CB - Calvin Bassey, 6
Fairly comfortable tonight but the centre-back does have a mistake in him. A sloppy pass helped give Brentford the ball before the Janelt goal.
CB - Joachim Andersen, 7
Kept Yoane Wissa quiet all night long and will be fuming not to have a clean sheet to his name. His long balls were hit and miss this evening.
RB - Kenny Tete, 7
Determined tonight. Sometimes Fulham’s biggest threat in the Brentford box thanks to his physical presence and made a vital sliding intervention early in the second half to keep his side one goal away from a leveller.
CDM - Andreas Pereira, 6

Looked a little suspect defensively in that role further back, not knowing whether to come or go as Janelt fired in. He’s at his best when dictating play at the other end of the pitch, delivering several dangerous crosses today.
CDM - Sander Berge, 9
Very involved in what this Fulham side too, looking a lot like Joao Palhinha at times. Did look a little leggy as the game went on but found it in him to get down and block a 95th minute Bees chance that looked a certain goal. Proving to be a good signing.
LW - Reiss Nelson, 8
If he plays like that every game, that starting role will be his. A little rushed when pulling the trigger, but more of a goal threat than Adama would have likely been in the same position. Caused problems on the right flank too when told to switch by Silva.
CAM - Emile Smith-Rowe, 9

Craven Cottage roars when Smith-Rowe starts driving with the ball at his feet and rightly so. The former Arsenal man is so neat in what he does and he was unplayable at times for Brentford. A joy to watch, it’s baffling how he didn’t push his side to an equaliser earlier.
RW - Alex Iwobi, 7
Enjoyed plenty of freedom all over the pitch and brought his usual energy. Not able to find a clinical edge.
ST - Raul Jimenez, 5
Some nice hold up work when making a nuisance of himself but did not provide the goal threat Fulham needed tonight. So much good work on the edge of the box and on the wings was crying out for a hungry goalscorer in the middle to get on the end of something.
SUB - Adama Traore, 9
Fantastic cameo. Caused problems as soon as he was introduced and proved the game-changer as he crossed into Wilson. Fulham have an abundance of talent on the wings.
SUB - Rodrigo Muniz, 7
Added some physical presence but little more than Jimenez.
SUB - Timothy Castagne, 7
Wily cameo on the flank as he played his part in the turnaround.
SUB - Tom Cairney, 7
Neat in what he did after he came on, working on the edge of the box.
SUB - Harry Wilson, 10
Had only minutes to make an impact an oh boy did he - it wasn’t luck either. Fulham had lacked any sort of clinical edge but the winger’s two finishes were top draw, one impromptu flick of the boot and one header. Sublime.
