Crystal Palace have reportedly been joined by Burnley in their pursuit of Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Sweden international is a man in-demand ahead of the January transfer.

The Eagles are one of a few clubs said to be interested in the forward but will now have to see off interest from Vincent Kompany’s side who are prepared to ‘spend big’ on him this winter, according to reporter Alan Nixon on Patreon. Southampton, Everton and West Ham have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

Gyokeres, 24, has been a key player for Coventry over the past few years but they could face a battle to keep hold of him in the future. The Sky Blues snapped him up back in 2021 after he impressed them on loan and he has since scored 27 goals in 66 games in all competitions, nine of which have come this term.

Prior to his move to Mark Robins’ side, he spent four years on the books at Brighton and Hove Albion but only played eight times for their first-team. Instead, he got experience out on loan at FC St. Pauli and Swansea City before switching to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Crystal Palace could see him as the next player from the Football League to make the step up to the top flight. They have enjoyed success with the likes of Ebe Eze and Michael Olise over recent times after luring them to Selhurst Park from the second tier.
