Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira hopes of adding more fireworks to his attack have received a lift with the news summer target Ismaila Sarr’s widely reported move to Aston Villa has fallen through.

The Watford star had been poised to sign for Aston Villa but the deal fell through at the last minute - and with barely a week until the transfer window closes, Palace might try their luck again.

According to the BBC, both Watford and Villa had agreed a £25m deal for the winger who is capable of playing in attack, but complications in personal terms mean it’s not happening.

Both Aston Villa and Watford have now moved on as they aim to get other deals across the line, with the Hornets still hopeful of signing defender Kortney Hause.

Sarr, who has been tipped widely in Senegal to be the next Sadio Mane, has scored 25 goals for Watford since joining them in 2019.

Earlier this year, he played a key role as Senegal won their first ever AFCON title in Cameroon and even though his form improved in the second half of the season for Watford, he could not stop their relegation to the Championship last camp.

Palace have sold Christian Benteke and have space for a new striker and reports say they are considering the Senegal international who fits the profile of players they are always looking at.

Aged only 24, the winger has experience in the Premier League, and the attitude and quality to improve Patrick Vieira’s side.

Meanwhile Palace will now hope to continue their fine form this weekend when they travel to Etihad to play Manchester City.
