Crystal Palace will need a new manager for when Roy Hodgson eventually moves on

Crystal Palace have emerged as one of the bookies’ favourites for Gareth Southgate’s next destination. The current England manager is facing an uncertain future with the national team and may well leave after the next European Championship next summer in Germany.

The former Middlesbrough boss took over the Three Lions back in 2016 having previously been in charge of the Under-21’s side. He has since overseen 86 games from the dugout for his country and has won 61.63% of matches.

Crystal Palace will already know a lot about the Watford-born man following his spell at Selhurst Park in his playing days. He played for the Eagles as a youngster and went on to make 191 appearances for them in all competitions, chipping in with 22 goals.

Southgate guided England to the semi-final of the World Cup in Russia back in 2018, the final of the Euros in 2020 and the quarter-final of the latest World Cup in Qatar. He will be hoping his team can take the next step towards glory at the next tournament, which may well be his last.

He will have a big decision to make on what direction he wants his career to date next. His previous links with the club may be why Crystal Palace is so high up on the list of his next possible team. With that in mind, here is a look at the list...
