Chelsea defender Reece James targeting Arsenal game after international break to return from injury and has paid £90k fine.

Chelsea captain Reece James will be available to play against Arsenal if he recovers from his injury with his ban set to take place against Burnley this weekend.

The Chelsea defender accepted a charge of use of abusive language and was fined a staggering £90k and banned one match which will be a game he was already missing due to the injury he’s carrying.

An FA statement read: “Reece James has been given a one-match suspension and £90,000 fine for breaching FA Rule E3 at Chelsea’s Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday 24 September.

“The defender admitted that he used improper, insulting and abusive words and behaviour towards a match official in the tunnel after the final whistle.

“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing, and its written reasons for them will be published at the earliest opportunity.”

James has only played just once this season, but has been working his way back to full fitness and has been coming for home games in a bit to support the team as they navigate a very tough start to the league season.

Chelsea have had just two wins from their first seven games of the league season but part of it is down to the injuries with 10 first-team players on the treatment table.

The performances have been encouraging even though they would have been flying if they could add goals with lead striker Nicolas Jackson having just one league goal and Sterling the highest with two.
