Exclusive: Mitoma has agreed a new long-term contract with club after recent negotiations

Kaoru Mitoma has agreed a new five-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion, London World can exclusively reveal.

The Japan international joined Brighton from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale in the summer of 2021, before spending time on loan at Union SG in Belgium.

Mitoma's first season in the Premier League saw him score 10 goals in 41 appearances, adding five assists in the process.

LondonWorld understands Mitoma’s new five-year contract is worth in the region of £80,000-a-week and is expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours.

Lead agent Keisuke Sekine negotiated and completed the new deal, with Mitoma fully committed to Roberto De Zerbi’s project at the American Express Community Stadium.

“The city has a good climate, the sea is close, so it’s a really good place to live in.” said Mitoma at the end of last season.

“The supporters cheer for us in a loud voice both home and away.

“I feel a real warmth, they are really exceptional supporters. The staff behind the scenes are good people too, I am very happy here.

“I have gained good experience trying to get used to the new environment and am looking forward to doing even better next season.”

The 26-year-old turned down advances from clubs across Europe to extend his stay at Brighton, with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all monitoring his situation.
