Brazilian Kenedy must be itching to get some minutes after being recalled to Cobham, following an injury crisis in Chelsea’s wing back department.

The injury has left Marcos Alonso as the only left-back option for Champions League winning manager Thomas Tuchel.

To add insult to injury, dependable right back Reece James also has not kicked a ball after suffering a knee injury against Brighton in the league, even though is most likely to return soon.

With Chelsea’s style of play so dependent on the wing-backs, Tuchel attempted to recall Emerson Palmieri.

But Lyon had secured an agreement that the Italian would stay in France at least till the end of the season.

That left the club with little option but to recall Kenedy from Flamengo, where he was enjoying game time and having a good season.

The 26-year-old had played 17 times for the Brazilian giants, scoring once and assisting another, before he had to pack his bags and return to London.

Since then he’s barely had a sniff, with Thomas Tuchel preferring to go with the tried and tested Alonso and on some occasions Christian Pulisic as the left wing back.

Kenedy would have been disappointed he did not get some minutes in the FA Cup game against Plymouth Argyle F.C. where the Blues battled to a 2-1 win in the FA Cup.

The competitive nature of the Club World Cup also meant he was just a spectator as the Blues cruised to their first ever win in that unique competition.

When next can Kenedy get his chance to impress

Thomas Tuchel likes to go with a team he can trust, so the twice capped Brazilian will likely not get a look in against Crystal Palace.

The game after that is the Champions League round-of-16 game against Lille, which is another one that the manager can ill afford to experiment in.

It doesn’t get easier for Kenedy, as a postponed Premier League game against Leicester follows along with the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Realistically Kenedy can only hope to get his chance in early March when Chelsea make the short trip to Luton Town for the FA Cup fifth round tie.

Kenedy last played for Chelsea in 2016, and admitted it was a surprise when he got the call to return to Stamford Bridge this January.

He said: “Chelsea had a contract with Flamengo.

“They asked me to present myself and I’m presenting myself.

“It was Flamengo that told me. I’m just fulfilling the contract.”
