Manchester United have finally reached a middle ground to pay Chelsea £60million for Mason Mount as the Reds finally close in on their first summer signing.

Chelsea initially wanted £70million for Mount but Manchester made a first bid of £40million which was turned down before gradually improving to the now accepted £60million. Erik ten Hag’s side will pay £55million with a further five million in easily attainable add-ons.

Mount is currently on holiday but has already agreed personal terms and will sign a five-year deal with an option for another one when he passes his medical next week, bringing an end to his two decades stay in Chelsea that was briefly interrupted by loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County.

News of his departure has attracted interest from fans and even some of his teammates with both Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James reacting to the news.

Defender Chalobah posted on his Twitter page: “My boy “ while James responded to a question “Reece James to Arsenal who says no”. With a brutal: “I say no”

Chelsea have been able to raise almost £200million from players sale this summer which has seen the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, and N’Golo Kante, who dropped the chance to sign a new deal, heading to Saudi Arabia.

The sale has put the club in a strong financial situation that will fund their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moisés Caicedo. New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino will start work on Monday when some members of the team are due back for pre-season.
