Chelsea manager Graham Potter is already facing a mini crisis after defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal in the Premier League. The English manager has been in the job barely eight weeks but there are growing doubts as to whether he has what it takes to be leader of a Chelsea team and fan base that accepts nothing but winning.

Individual players like Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount haven’t really exploded and the football hasn’t really been convincing even though it’s an improvement of the defensive style they adopted in the last days of Thomas Tuchel.

Potter has been quite honest with his expectations at club and says he expected the pressure of managing a mighty club like Chelsea to get to him even though privately, he’s been working round the clock to change the recent slump.

He is taking charge of training drills himself and is one of the last to leave Cobham as he works with the sports science team and the medical staff to try and work out why he’s had so much misfortune with injuries since taking over the side.

Meeting every player and speaking before start of the session

One of the unique things that has made Potter successful is his human touch and the Chelsea players have been warming to it every training session. He meets the team in a circle and finds out if they’re fine on a professional level and private level.

Potter also takes interest in their overall being and has assured them that even though results have been tough recently, he was certain they would begin to see proper progres after the World Cup when he’s had time to work with them uninterrupted.

One of the things he’s done so well has also been that he’s stayed in touch with the injured players like Wesley and Reece and made sure that he is informed of any progress as he looks to shape this team back into his own image.

Facing losing four games before the World Cup break

Chelsea travel to the Etihad this evening on the back of two defeats in the league and needing a response before signing off the first half of the season against Newcastle away.

The pressure is already at peak level but you can only imagine what the picture will look like if Chelsea fail to win against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and Newcastle in the league. Potter needs something from those games and it makes for interesting viewing what kind of team he puts out against Pep today and Howe at the weekend.
