Tottenham are in talks with Italian side Lazio for the sale of club captain and legend Hugo Lloris with just one year left on his contract at the club.

According to the Evening Standard Tottenham are looking to get a fee for their captain even though Lazio are aware he is surplus to requirement in north London and want him for free- as technically he’ll free up the wage bill.

The 36-year-old has confirmed his intentions to leave Spurs and was left out of the club's tour of Asia as he searched for a new club.

The goalkeeper said back in June: “We are coming to an important moment, whether for the club or for me. It’s the end of an era. I have desires for other things, I will ask myself quietly to study what will be possible.

“But I don’t forget that I still have a year of contract with Tottenham and that in football it is always difficult to predict what will happen. What is essential at the moment is to recover well from my injury. I’m on vacation but I continue to talk and do my training. My goal is to be on top in July, then we’ll see what the future holds.”

Lloris hasn’t played for the club since injuring his knee in the 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United last season and could leave the club after 447 games that included a Champions League final game in 2019 under Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham have brought in Guglielmo Vicario in his place as they look to build from scratch following a disappointing campaign under Antonio Conte.
