Todd Boehly is said to be taking the sensible approach in Chelsea’s search for another striker.

Todd Boehly has reportedly gone against his recent trend of overpaying for new talent.

The American Chelsea owner has made a splash in the Premier League by spending untold amounts of money on new signings over the last year or so. The Blues were left with a huge squad last season due to the amount of new arrivals, and while they have managed to trim it this season, the spending has and will continue.

Although, the Blues have been smarter with their business this summer, and they are said to have just one box still to tick off - a new striker.

Chelsea are said to want to sign a forward as Mauricio Pochettino seeks competition for Nicolas Jackson in the absence of Christopher Nkunku, who has been ruled out for months with injury.

Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but according to Ben Jacobs, Boehly has gone against his usual character in walking away from a deal due to the large price tag being commanded by Forest.

Jacobs said on his Twitter Space: “There is some substance in Bracola but PSG have been the club pushing a little bit more as far as he is concerned and Chelsea have backed off at the moment.

“That’s the same with Johnson too, it was partially about the output and it was also down to the fact that it has been reasonably well known among circles that if Tottenham come in then that will be the player’s choice and in addition to that Chelsea’s valuation of Brennan Johnson is somewhere in the region of £35 million, and it looks like it’s going to be a £50 million deal.”

Boehly has overpaid to blow rivals out of the water with a number of previous signings, including Myhaylo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo, but it seems he will take the sensible approach this time around.
