Reece James update as Chelsea suffer another fresh injury blow ahead of Liverpool game

Chelsea captain Reece James has stepped up his recovery and continues to train with the full squad ahead of their game against Liverpool at Anfield this weekend. This marks the first time this season that the Chelsea captain is in contention to play a league game.

LondonWorld first reported last week that the defender was in line for a return, and this week Chelsea posted on their social media that their captain had returned to training. Sources have also indicated that the club's medics are very impressed with his strength and believe he will be in good health now that he is starting to play again.

However, there is another injury concern as Danish goalkeeper Phillip Jorgensen was withdrawn from the Denmark under-21 game and will now return to Cobham to be assessed ahead of the visit to Anfield.

Speaking after the game last night, Danish manager Steffen Højer confirmed the setback, saying, "It is crazy how unlucky he is." He added, "Now that quota must be used up."

Højer continued: "It wasn't planned. Instead, it's a semi-bad habit we've gotten into with changing goalkeepers. He got hit down there and wasn't quite at his best. We decided to take him out, so we didn't have to go back to Chelsea with something or other.

"I don't know how he's doing, but I don't think it's something that people should be worried about. We just didn't want to take any chances."

Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal in a deal worth around £20.7 million. There were suggestions that he could be the first-choice goalkeeper, but Robert Sanchez has been able to keep his spot, even though the Swedish-born Danish goalkeeper has been named on the bench in every league game so far.

He is the only Chelsea player who has had an issue while on international duty, with Enzo Maresca having almost a full squad ahead of the trip to Anfield.
