Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new England manager. He will replace Gareth Southgate after the former England manager decided to leave the job following the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 campaign.
The FA began talks with Tuchel and quickly appointed him on an 18-month contract that will keep the German as England's manager until just after the 2026 World Cup. He will officially begin his duties on January 1, 2025.

Current interim manager Lee Carsley will remain in the post for England’s upcoming Nations League matches in November as they face Greece away from home before hosting the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.
Thomas Tuchel has an impressive trophy cabinet
The former Chelsea boss certainly knows how to win silverware as he has won 11 trophies during his time in management. Tuchel’s first major trophy came in 2017 when he won the DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund. In 2019, he won the league title with Paris Saint-Germain in his first season at the Parc des Princes.
The 51-year-old also won a domestic quadruple during his time with PSG winning two cup competitions and the French Super Cup. Chelsea was the next destination for the German manager where he won the Champions League and gave the Blues their second Champions League title. The following year, Tuchel led the Blues to a UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup title in what was his last full season at Stamford Bridge before he was sacked in favour of Graham Potter. Tuchel then moved to Bayern Munich where he won the Bundesliga in the 2022/23 season which was his third league title as a manager. His speciality seems to come in cup competitions of which he has won six major titles - experience that could prove valuable for England in the next World Cup.

Not only does the German have a fantastic record when it comes to both cup and league competitions, but his win record is impressive too. As a manager, Tuchel has been in charge for 608 matches in total, winning 356, drawing 106 and losing 146. That makes his win rate at 58.6%. Compared to the other tipped candidates for the England job, Graham Potter’s win rate is 35%, Frank Lampard’s is 52.1%, Pep Guardiola’s is 73.4% and Lee Carsley’s is 60%.
Furthermore, Tuchel’s teams over the years have scored a total of 1268 goals and conceded just 701 meaning that on average his teams score 2.1 goals per game and concede 1.2 goals per game. Only time will tell to see if Tuchel was a wise appointment by the FA, but going by his win record and trophy cabinet, there will be hopes that he can take England deep into the 2026 World Cup.
