Premier League confirm decision to cancel Chelsea vs Fulham and all games following death of the Queen

The game between Chelsea and Fulham will not take place this weekend following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.
The Premier League released a statement confirming that all rounds of games this week have been postponed as the nation goes into mourning.

Hide AdThe statement read: “At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.”
Just before the Premier League made their decision, the government also announced there was no compulsion to cancel games leaving the window open for governing bodies to make their own call, gauging the mood of the nation.
The statement from the Cabinet Office read on Friday morning: “There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period.

Hide Ad“This is at the discretion of individual organisations. As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the State Funeral.
“They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations,” it continued.”
