It was a forgettable encounter at Stamford Bridge last night as Chelsea and Liverpool played out a dull 0-0 draw in their latest Premier League meeting.

Interim head coach Bruno Saltor was in the dugout for the home side who continued their search for a new manager following the sacking of Graham Potter last week. The rumour mill is rampant with speculation about who will be taking over at the London club and the latest headlines suggest they have now ‘made contact’ with the coach most heavily linked to the job.

However, there could be more going on that meets the eye with another publication claiming that a former Chelsea boss could be about to step back into the job after he was spotted at last night’s match. Here are the latest news stories concerning Chelsea’s search for a new head coach:

Chelsea approach Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique over vacancy

Per a report from The Telegraph, Chelsea have made contact with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique after the club started the process of finding the permanent successor to Graham Potter. The publication claims that the club wants to interview ‘as many as five candidates’ for the vacancy and have drawn up a list of names.

Nagelsmann and Enrique are said to be ‘at the top’ of that list and both men are also said to have an interest in taking over at Stamford Bridge. However, the article also references previous reports coming out of Germany that suggest Nagelsmann is keen to wait until the summer before making a decision on his next job following his sacking by Bayern Munich last month.

Further reports on Wednesday, via Jijantes FC, claimed Enrique had arrived in London ahead of discussions over the vacancy.

In news that comes as a surprise twist in the saga, The Sun have reported that Chelsea legend Frank Lampard could be set for a shock return to the Stamford Bridge dugout. The publication claims the former Blues player and manager is being considered for a caretaker role that would last until the end of the current season.

Lampard was in the stands watching on during last night’s 0-0 Premier League draw with Liverpool which seems to have added fuel to the fire on the rumours. The former England midfielder has been out of work since being sacked by Everton earlier this season.
