Liverpool have been told to make a move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante who is out of contract in the summer and has still not agreed to an extension at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have signed Enzo Fernandez, who is seen as a long term replacement for Kante, PSG and Real Madrid have all reportedly to be keeping an eye on the former Leicester City man as he nears Chelsea exit.

World Cup winner N’Golo Kante hasn’t played since he picked up a hamstring injury against Tottenham and missed the World Cup, he’s also missed important league games and Champions League matches so far this campaign.

But Liverpool legend Steve Nicol says the Reds should take the chance on the French midfielder as they lack legs and experience in the middle of the park.

He told ESPN: “If I am a coach of the best team on the planet, and he’s [Kante] available, then I want to sign him. There are certain things that you take a chance on in football, and this is one of them.

“You know exactly what you are getting when he is fit. You know you are getting a player, a gentleman and an experienced winner. He’s the whole package. The nicest guy in the world. Fantastic in the dressing room. You are getting everything.”

This winter transfer window, Chelsea have spent almost £300 million on players and will have to sell some homegrown players and cut contracts of some high earners to balance the books as Financial Fair Play regulation gathers around them.

Kante has been sensational for Chelsea but there is a feeling that his best days might be behind him and he could walk away from Stamford Bridge this summer with both parties shaking hands.

The thought of that was unthinkable in the past but there is solemn resignation to that now within the Chelsea corridors and Liverpool could be the benefactors with Jurgen Klopp seriously thinking of overhauling his midfield in the summer.
