Jose Mourinho signing set for first managerial role - and ex-Chelsea star will be one of his players
Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luís is set to be named the head coach of Brazilian giants Flamengo, following the sacking of Tite. The left-back has been promoted to the role after the board decided he was ready, following an underwhelming period under former Brazil head coach Tite.

According to a report on ColunadoFla, one of Brazil’s most-read football pages, the 39-year-old, who has been playing for the club since 2019, will be presented later today.
Filipe Luís joined Chelsea in the summer of 2014 in a deal worth £15.8m, as a replacement for Ashley Cole, who had moved to AS Roma after Chelsea opted not to renew his contract. Luis was one of four summer signings under the returning José Mourinho, alongside Diego Costa, who would go on to become one of the club’s legendary strikers.
For Luís, his Chelsea stint was short-lived, as he returned to Atlético Madrid after failing to settle at the club. Chelsea reinvested the money in 21-year-old Baba Rahman from Augsburg. However, Luís did manage to make 29 appearances and played a part in Chelsea’s Premier League-winning campaign that season.

It is important to note that Filipe Luís assumes the position of Flamengo coach on an interim basis. The plan is for the young coach to remain in the role until the end of the 2024 season, during which time he will be responsible for managing the professional team.
His first game will be against fellow giants Corinthians this weekend, followed by a match against Bahia, which will be the last game before the upcoming international break. Flamengo are currently fourth in the league table, nine points behind first-placed Botafogo after 28 games.
